FICTIONAL WORKED EXAMPLE / SOLO CREATOR

Solo YouTube Video Plan: Script, B-Roll & Shoot Checklist

A five-minute desk-setup video planned around one creator and one room.

This is a fictional editorial plan for a creator explaining three choices in their desk setup. It is not a filmed customer case study or a promise of views. The timings are targets for rehearsal, not an automated prediction of the finished video.

01 / MESSAGE TO PICTURE

A five-minute AV plan.

The rows total 300 seconds. These are planning targets; rehearse the words and review the edit against the actual action.

Timed picture and audio plan
Time / shotPictureAudio / words
0:00–0:20 / A / B1Direct to camera, with a short cutaway to the finished desk.State the problem: “Three changes that made my desk easier to use.”
0:20–0:55 / A / B2Show the initial layout and the first practical constraint.Explain the available space and why the layout needed a change.
0:55–1:55 / A / B3Demonstrate the first change, then return to the same camera position.Explain the choice and its trade-off in your own experience.
1:55–2:55 / A / B4Demonstrate the second change, with a close detail where useful.Make the second point; avoid repeating the introduction.
2:55–3:55 / A / B5Show the third change and a short before/after comparison.Describe what changed and what still does not work.
3:55–4:40 / A / B6Return to direct-to-camera coverage with supporting inserts.Recap the three decisions and who might use them.
4:40–5:00 / AA simple closing frame with room for an end screen.Give one relevant next step. Disclose sponsorship if applicable.

02 / COVERAGE

Give each setup a clear job.

Coverage and continuity checks

B1Wide deskShow the completed setup as a whole.Keep cable and object positions consistent.
B2Before layoutExplain the starting constraint.Label it as before footage.
B3Demonstration detailShow the first change in use.Maintain the same direction and hand.
B4Close detailMake the second choice readable.Avoid shadows hiding the important part.
B5 / B6Comparison + insertsSupport the third choice and recap.Match the desk state or label the change.

03 / ASSUMPTIONS

Count the work as well as the cash.

All figures below are illustrative USD assumptions for this fictional exercise. They are not market rates, a client quote or a recommendation about what to charge. Existing equipment is assumed; confirm rentals, tax, insurance, rights and other job-specific costs separately.

Illustrative production cost calculation
ItemQuantity × rateAmount
Creator time: plan, shoot and edit10 × $25.00$250.00
Small consumables1 × $10.00$10.00
Subtotal$260.00
Contingency0%$0.00
Illustrative total$260.00

The creator-time line values ten hours of work. It is not an automatic cash payment; the only small cash consumable in this example is $10.00.

04 / SEQUENCE THE WORK

Give decisions their own dates.

Production and review milestones
WhenMilestoneDecision or work
Session 1Plan and rehearseWrite talking points, target five minutes and decide which claims are personal experience.
Session 2Record the presenterCheck sound, focus and exposure, then capture the continuous explanation.
Session 3Capture B-rollUse the coverage list to fill gaps; take reference photos before moving objects.
Session 4Edit and reviewTrim repetition, balance sound, add disclosures and check the final video.

05 / BEFORE THE SHOOT & DELIVERY

Review the whole plan.

  • The cost example values your time; it is not cash automatically payable to someone else.
  • Record a short sound and focus test before a long take.
  • Remove private addresses, screens, messages and paperwork from the frame.
  • Keep a visible record of desk and light positions when recording inserts later.
  • The calendar tracks preparation and delivery; it does not automatically publish to YouTube.

When another person joins, explain the actual brief, role, dates and responsibilities. Keep private client material within its intended access.

Make the next plan your own.

Use the example to understand the decisions, then choose the tools relevant to your production.
